As a private bank with a 300-year tradition, sustainability has always been an important part of our identity. It runs like a common thread through our range of services - with a focus on sustainable asset management.
Together with you as a customer, we want to create long-term added value. In order to meet the challenges of our time, we established an independent Sustainability Advisory Board made up of external personalities back in 2011 and offer sustainable products such as funds and a wide range of services.
In addition to financial factors, sustainability aspects can also be taken into account when investing. One term that is often heard in this context is ESG. Here are a few examples of the issues that are considered in this context:
For the environmental part of the ESG factors, the positive contribution that a company makes in the area of environmental challenges is examined: the steps that a company implements to reduce carbon emissions, water consumption and the amount of waste generated. Questions are also asked such as: "Does the company recycle?" Or: "Does the company report on its own environmental impact?"
The social aspect looks at how a company treats its employees. Does a company ensure safe working conditions and pay its employees a fair wage? Does the company have an anti-discrimination policy, for example? How does the company treat its suppliers? What does the company do to exclude child labor from its production chain?
The governance analysis examines how a company is managed. This involves asking questions such as: "Is the company susceptible to corruption?" Or: "What is the composition of the supervisory board?". We also examine whether the company is involved in political lobbying and, if so, whether it pursues a transparent policy in this regard.
Our external Sustainability Advisory Board, made up of five outstanding personalities, has been monitoring the criteria and selection of our sustainable investments since 2011.
The independent management consultant and expert for corporate social responsibility and change management has already been granted numerous international environmental awards and is a member of the Club of Rome (EU Chapter), among others.
One of her key areas of focus is the strategic anchoring of sustainability in all its facets in multinational companies. She was also a member of the Impact Investing Working Group of the Association of German Foundations and co-leader of the Organisational Exploratory Programme of “The Wellbeing Project”, an international project for social entrepreneurs.
She is President of Ecoropa and as such has an active role in the United Nations Environment and Sustainability Negotiations. She is also a member of the Board of the Association of German Scientists.
She is one of the leading international experts on climate change and climate change mitigation issues and was one of the coordinating lead authors of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on the impacts of global warming 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. Her research focuses on regional climate modeling, the hydrological cycle, and adaptation to climate change impacts.
Sonja Schweizer comes from a fifth-generation entrepreneurial family. Sustainable development is a particular priority for her, both with regard to the family office she runs together with her husband and her own company, which was founded in 2011. Since 2018, Sonja Schweizer has held various advisory board positions in the finance and sustainability sector as well as in advising start-ups. She is particularly interested in promoting female entrepreneurs and women in leadership positions.
